Hey people im having problems with my modem. I can browse the internet alright but the moment i start downloading, it seems to be around 550kb it just disconnects. Ive gone through the modem setup and harddrive tweaking that on this site but i just cant fix it. I run WinXP and have updated the driver to the latest generic conexant driver.

Ive also tried net optimizer and other apps. I fixed the problem once before by formatting the harddrive, and another time when i set my primary and secondaryIDE channel to DMA mode but now im running out of ways to fix it. Edit- also my connection speed has gone from a consistant 49.2 down to 46.6-45.2 I dont know if this matters either but when downloading the speed used to be 5.5-6kb/s but now it starts at 5 and slowly drops to 2-2.1 then.5-.9 then it disconnects Heres the info from listmodemapp- MODEM #1: PCI CONFIGURATION INFORMATION READ: VENDOR ID: 14F1 DEVICE ID: 1053 SUBVENDOR ID: 144F SUBDEVICE ID: 1047 REVISION ID: 08 DEDUCED INFORMATION: VENDOR NAME: CONEXANT DEVICE NAME: SMARTHCF P95 DATA/FAX SUBVENDOR NAME: ASKEY MODEM TYPE: HCF WINXP INBUILD SUPPORT: YES. This is all the info my isp could give me so could it be a modem hardware problem?

Click onto Start, then Connect To and then Show All Connections. Double click on the Xtra icon, this should take you to the 'Connect to Xtra' window, then click on the Properties button. Click on the Network tab.

At the top the “Type of dialup server” should be set to “PPP: Windows 95/98 NT4/ 2000, Internet” 5. Click on the Settings button. “Enable LCP extensions” should be unticked. “Enable software compression” should be ticked. “Negotiate multi-link for single link connections” should be unticked.

Under the heading “This connection uses the following items” you should have a tick in “Internet Protocol TCP/IP” 11. “QoS packet scheduler” should also be ticked. Any other services, protocols and adapters are not required specifically for dialup Xtra Internet use, however they may be required for extra functionality such as a network. There is a possibility that these could cause conflicts when trying to use Xtra, however Xtra is unable to provide any specific assistance – please seek help from your computer support provider. Highlight Internet protocol TCP/IP.

Click on the Properties button. “Obtain an IP Address Automatically' should be selected.

The next option should be left on 'Obtain DNS server address automatically' 17. Click on the Advanced button 18. By default you should be on the General tab.

    Mac

“Use default gateway on remote” network should be ticked. Under the heading PPP link the “Use IP header compression” should be ticked. Click on the DNS tab 22. Only “Append primary and connection specific DNS suffixes” and “Append parent suffixes on the primary DNS suffix” should be ticked. Click on the WINS tab.

“Enable LMHOSTS lookup” must be ticked. “Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP” should be selected. Click on “OK” then “OK” again. Close the dialer properties by clicking on OK. Your modem is using a serial or COM port. Check the modem in Device manager on which port under properties.

Check that COM-port under Device Manager/Ports and under properties make sure it is set to 115.000kb. Now check the modem-properties, and make sure they are also set to 115.000. In the BIOS are also COM-ports (only to enable/disable).

If your modem uses 1 or 3 you could disable COM2. If your modem uses 2 or 4 you could disable COM1. PS: I just remember something, isn't there a utility with this modem setup to select your country so you get the proper settings? Did you do that after the re-install?

    1. My computer came with a Conexant SoftK56 DataFaxPCI modem. I was using Winfax Basic edition 9.0 and Win98SE. Things were working fine for months and then suddenly many incoming voice calls triggered the fax program. Now all calls are doing it.

I haven't been able to correlate this with any changes I might have made. I switched to QuickLink and ran into the same problem. I would appreciate any ideas on what might have caused this, and how it might be corrected; or references to pertinent help sources. Hi - I'm trying to help my brother test to see whether the PCMCIA modem card in his very old Dell laptop is malfunctioning, by trying it in my new HP laptop running Windows XP Home edition. It is an Angia Safejack 28.8 v.34 PCMIA modem, Model no.

SJ288, FCC ID J2HAFVSJ288. Unfortunately, the company that made the modem is out of business. The problem that we're running into, even on my new laptop, is as follows: Even though Windows XP correctly recognizes and installs the modem, it does not successfully dial. When we try to dial out with it, we hear dial tone just fine, but the dialing tones never sound, and after a while the telco recording comes on that says, 'If you'd like to make a call, please hang up and try again.' Can anyone suggest a remedy, or does anyone know for sure that this modem will not work under Windows XP? Thanks, Tim. 3.

Any one know about any windows DLL/Library, which dials up modem v.92 (which is connected via analog phone line) and transfer a file to the location? I want to use it in my windows based application.

    Hcf

I found wininet which offers a couple of functions for file transfer. But it is an FTP based.

Would it be possible to transfer the files without using FTP over the dial up modems? Hello, Recently I purchased an internal HSP micromodem for a friend, however after installing it, i can not get any dialtone at all. The modem is definitly recognised asI can send and receive at commands, and I specified the country to australia(which is correct) both with windows(2000) dial up networking and hsp micromodem driver configuration screen. A simple atdd #number return NO DIALTONE.

Phone is definitly working as an older 28.8 modem works flawlessly. Any tips/comments apprecciated. Your's Faithully, Joshua Benson. 5. What is the meaning of 'chars' and 'octets' as reported by USR's link diagnostics? I notice that the numbers are often of the same order of magnitude, but can also be wildly different. I would have thought that octets were groupings of 8 bits sent from DCE to DCE, and that chars were 8 bit bytes sent between DCE and DTE, but this explanation is contrary to observations.

Franc Zabkar - Please remove one 's' from my address when replying by email. Now the problem is finding v2.13 of the drivers for this modem.

PureTek apparently overwrote their v2.13 drivers with v4.0.5 in the directory (%20V2.13/) that used to have the older ones. V4.0.5 are only supported on modems that apparently have no chip installed at U4 position.

My modem does have a chip at U4. So now the question is, does anyone have v2.1.3 drivers lying around for the PT-3515 or even generic drivers with that revision number for the HSF modems. Thanks, Shahid. Similar Threads: 1. Hi, I've a Zoltrix Smart Lite Soft modem with such a chip and I'm using WindowsXP. The modem is v92 data, fax, voice, speakerphone and caller ID capable, but I'm not able to get all these features together. With WindowsXP default driver I get v92 and caller ID but not voice and speakerphone.

With Zoltrix driver I get v92, voice and speakerphone but caller ID doesn't work. So I've tried installing WindowsXP driver for US Robotics Voice Host (same chip) and it gave me voice, speakerphone and caller ID but only v90. So, is there a driver for WindowsXP that supports all the features mentioned? Or is it possible to modify the inf file to get all the features? Thanks a lot, cdr 4. Panasonic laptop CF-R1N WXP Prof SP2.

It includes a Panasonic Internal Softmodem PCI VEN134D&DEV7890&SUBSYS83310F7&REV02 4&13. The driver supplied was Panasonic 8.0.47.1 Using Symantec WinFax Pro 10.03, the system could not successfully receive a fax message containing mixed resolutions in one fax message eg page 1 fine; page 2 standard; p3 fine, such as can be sent by a Brother 1030e fax. It would report 'waiting' at the end of page 1 and not retrain and eventually close after page 1 without accepting the complete 3 pages of the fax. I installed the generic driver 12.300.24.0 available from Conexant as HSPUniDriverSoftwareWin2kXP.zip. Now seems OK, and WinFax Pro 10.03 receives mixed resolution faxes successfully. (But no similar success using RingCentral SmartFax 2004 Professional 7.0.1.14 for receiving mixed resolution faxes though.) 5.

I am attempting to load service pack 2 but when it comes to the loading of VIA 4 in1 driver it shuts the computer down. I am doing an upgrade from CD. I have tried to point to the already installed drivers on the C: but it shuts down. I downloaded and burned to a CD the newest driver and still does the same thing. It says that Windows has encountered and serious error and is shutting down. Then does a memory dump at restarts. What can I do to fix this.

I don't want to lose any data.
